The Lucent Practice

On this page

The Lucent Practice is a rule of life: a steady pattern for turning toward God, seeking truth, and living faithfully.

Its purpose is clarity and alignment before God—bringing what we believe, what we say, and how we live closer together.

Daily orientation toward God

Make deliberate space to remember God and the kind of person you seek to become. Begin with prayer, reverence, gratitude, or silence.

Attention should prepare us for action, not excuse us from it.

Examination of conscience

Look honestly at your choices. Where have your actions matched your convictions? Where have convenience, fear, resentment, or self-interest led you away from them?

Conscience calls for humility as well as sincerity. Listen to criticism, test assumptions, seek reliable information, and be willing to revise a mistaken belief.

When you cause harm, acknowledge it. Apologize, make amends where possible, and work to change the habits that made it possible.

Truthfulness and integrity

Speak honestly. Keep your commitments. Distinguish what you know from what you assume, and admit uncertainty rather than pretending to have an answer.

Admit mistakes rather than protecting appearances. Let your conduct be consistent with what you profess, even when no one is watching.

Mercy and service

Choose practical acts of care: listen patiently, help someone who is struggling, share what you can, challenge injustice, and attend to needs that are easy to overlook.

Mercy, justice, generosity, forgiveness, courage, and self-restraint are practices, not merely sentiments. Service gives devotion a visible form.

Fellowship and responsibility

Make time for friendship, honest conversation, and service. Encourage others in their efforts to live faithfully, and be willing to receive encouragement and correction yourself.

Listen patiently. Offer practical help. Take responsibility for the trust others place in you.

Continuing spiritual learning

Study thoughtfully. Ask difficult questions, examine reliable sources, and remain willing to correct a mistaken belief.

Read teachings in context and acknowledge their sources. Consider not only what you have learned, but what that learning asks you to do.

A simple daily rhythm

Adapt this rhythm to your circumstances. It is a practical starting point, not a test of worthiness.

Morning

Turn your attention toward God through prayer, silence, or reflection.

Consider one way to practice truth, integrity, mercy, or service today.

Throughout the day

Pay attention to your choices. Speak truthfully, keep your word, and pause before acting from anger or impulse.

Look for an act of mercy or service you can actually carry out.

Evening

Review the day honestly. Where did your beliefs, words, and actions agree? Where did they diverge?

Consider whom you need to thank, what you need to repair, and what you should do differently tomorrow.

End with gratitude and a renewed intention to live faithfully.

The measure of the practice

Are we becoming more honest, merciful, just, courageous, humble, generous, and dependable?

The aim is not a convincing religious appearance. It is a life increasingly aligned with truth and conscience before God.

Seek truth clearly. Hold belief humbly. Live it faithfully.
